Thuringian princess and queen of the Franks (c. 520-587), abducted at 11 as a war-prize by Clotaire I and forced into marriage; after Clotaire murdered her brother, she fled the court, was consecrated deaconess by Bishop St. Médard, and founded the convent of the Holy Cross at Poitiers, where she received a relic of the True Cross from Constantinople. Friend of the poet Venantius Fortunatus. Pre-Congregation.
