King of Northumbria (c. 604-642), exiled in Iona during his youth and there baptized; recovered the throne in 633, invited St. Aidan of Iona to evangelize from Lindisfarne, and established Christianity firmly in the north. Killed by the pagan Penda of Mercia at the Battle of Maserfield. Pre-Congregation; in Bede.
