King of Norway (c. 995-1030), Olaf Haraldsson, Viking warrior baptized in Normandy; reigned as king from 1015 promoting forcible Christianization, exiled by rebellion of his pagan and Anglo-Danish opponents, killed at the Battle of Stiklestad attempting to recover his kingdom. Patron of Norway; canonized 1031 by the local bishop with quick approval from Rome.
