Australian foundress (1842-1909), Melbourne-born of Scottish Highland parents; with Father Julian Tenison Woods founded the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart (1866) for the bush schools of colonial Australia. Briefly excommunicated in 1871 over a dispute with a bishop (rescinded six months later); later refounded and approved. First Australian saint; canonized 2010 by Benedict XVI.
