French priest (1673-1716), itinerant missionary in western France whose preaching renewed parish life in Brittany, Vendée, and Poitou. Author of "True Devotion to Mary" and "The Secret of the Rosary," foundational texts of modern Marian spirituality. Founder of the Montfort Missionaries and Daughters of Wisdom. Canonized 1947 by Pius XII.
