Nahua layman (1474-1548), Cuauhtitlán-born Aztec convert baptized c. 1524 by Franciscans; on Tepeyac hill in December 1531 received the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who left her image imprinted on his tilma. Canonized 2002 by John Paul II at the basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
