English bishop and cardinal (1469-1535), Bishop of Rochester from 1504, confessor to Catherine of Aragon and only English bishop to refuse the Oath of Supremacy; created cardinal by Paul III while in the Tower (the king sent his head a fortnight later). Beheaded on Tower Hill. Canonized 1935 by Pius XI with St. Thomas More.
