Greek bishop and preacher (c. 347-407), "Golden-Mouthed," Antiochene priest, archbishop of Constantinople from 397; deposed and exiled twice by the empress Eudoxia for his moral preaching, died on the journey to a more remote exile on the Black Sea. Doctor of the Church; one of the Three Holy Hierarchs of the Eastern liturgy.
