French priest (1601-1680), founder of the Eudists (Congregation of Jesus and Mary, 1643) and the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Refuge (1641); one of the foremost early apostles of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, composing their first liturgical office. Canonized 1925 by Pius XI.
