Palestinian hermit (c. 291-371), pupil of St. Antony in Egypt who returned to bring eremitical monasticism to Palestine; founded a colony of hermits at Majuma near Gaza, then fled increasing fame to Egypt, Sicily, Dalmatia, and finally Cyprus. Subject of a Vita by St. Jerome. Pre-Congregation.
