Italian Redemptorist lay brother (1726-1755), tailor's apprentice who entered the Redemptorists in 1749 and became a noted thaumaturge in his short life. Falsely accused by a young woman of fathering her child, refused to defend himself; she later retracted. Patron of expectant mothers and unborn children. Canonized 1904 by Pius X.
