Cypriot Levite, traveling companion of St. Paul on the first missionary journey, and called an apostle in the Acts of the Apostles; sponsored Paul to the Jerusalem community and led the early mission to Antioch. Tradition makes him the first bishop of Cyprus, where he was martyred. Feast June 11.
