St. Philip Neri was an Italian priest, Florentine "Apostle of Rome"; lived as a layman in Rome 17 years working with the poor and pilgrims before ordination at 36, founding the Confraternity of the Most Holy Trinity (1548) and the Oratory of Divine Love. The Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip (Oratorians, approved 1575) is a community of secular priests living together without vows.

Friend of Sts. Camillus, Charles Borromeo, Felix of Cantalice. Canonized 1622 by Gregory XV.
