About St. Veronica
1st century, traditional · Feast July 12 · Biblical Saint (legendary) / Sixth Station of the Cross
Jerusalem woman of pious legend (1st century, traditional), the woman who according to medieval tradition wiped the face of Jesus with her veil on the way to Calvary, receiving on it the imprint of his features (the "vera icon" relic at St. Peter's). The figure does not appear in canonical Gospels; medieval tradition sometimes identifies her with the woman healed of the issue of blood. Pre-Congregation; legendary; commemorated in the Stations of the Cross.
