Swiss Benedictine recluse and martyr (d. 926), Allemanic noblewoman who lived as recluse beside the abbey of St. Gall, predicting and preparing for the Magyar raid that ultimately killed her. First woman formally canonized by papal canonization (1047 by Clement II). Patron of librarians.
