St. Casimir of Poland

Also known as Kazimierz Jagiellończyk, Casimir Jagiellon, or Patron of Poland.

Polish prince of the Jagiellon dynasty, second son of King Casimir IV. From childhood he was noted for piety, chastity, and care for the poor, refusing to participate in his father's military campaigns and devoting himself instead to prayer and almsgiving.

He died of tuberculosis at age twenty-five and was canonized as a model of pure Christian princely life. He is venerated as a patron of both Poland and Lithuania, who long shared a single crown.
