St. Joan of Arc was a French peasant visionary, of Domrémy, who at 17 led French armies to lift the siege of Orléans (1429) and saw Charles VII crowned at Reims; captured by Burgundians, sold to the English, tried at Rouen and burned for heresy in May 1431.
Rehabilitation trial of 1456 annulled the verdict; canonized 1920 by Benedict XV.
