St. Joseph of Cupertino was an Italian Conventual Franciscan, Apulian shepherd-boy of slow intellect who joined the friars and was ordained almost by accident; ecstatic mystic whose levitations were so frequent and public that the Holy Office confined him to remote friaries.
Canonized 1767 by Clement XIII; popular patron of test-takers.
