St. Roch
St. Roch was a French pilgrim, of Montpellier, devoted his inheritance to the poor and made a pilgrimage to Rome; through northern Italy nursed plague victims and miraculously healed many. Stricken himself, withdrew to a forest where a dog brought him bread.
Imprisoned in his hometown without recognition and died there. Patron against plague; pre-Congregation cultus.
